On this day back in 1933 Vera Jayne Palmer was born - many years later to be re-born as bombshell Jayne Mansfield.
Jayne tragically died much too young at the age of 34 in a car accident but would have been 79 if she was still alive today.
Far from the ditzy image she played up, Jayne could play violin from a young age and was classically trained in it and piano. She excelled at study, could speak five languages, and had attended the University of Texas.
On heading to Hollywood she dyed her hair blonde, and began playing up her curves.
Married three times and having five children as well as her career, Jayne never had a quiet life.
Along with a lasting image, Jayne also left another imprint for the entertainment world. Her daughter with one-time Mr. Universe winner Mickey Hargitay, Mariska Hargitay is now a film and TV star in her own right and is best known for her work on Law & Order.
