Happy Birthday Jayne Mansfield!

On this day back in 1933 Vera Jayne Palmer was born - many years later to be re-born as bombshell Jayne Mansfield.

Jayne tragically died much too young at the age of 34 in a car accident but would have been 79 if she was still alive today.

Far from the ditzy image she played up, Jayne could play violin from a young age and was classically trained in it and piano. She excelled at study, could speak five languages, and had attended the University of Texas.

On heading to Hollywood she dyed her hair blonde, and began playing up her curves.

Married three times and having five children as well as her career, Jayne never had a quiet life.

Along with a lasting image, Jayne also left another imprint for the entertainment world. Her daughter with one-time Mr. Universe winner Mickey Hargitay, Mariska Hargitay is now a film and TV star in her own right and is best known for her work on Law & Order.

This Day in Film History - Rebecca

On April 12, 1940 the film Rebecca was released.

While the film itself and performances by Joan Fontaine, Laurence Olivier and Judith Anderson are all iconic, the styles in the film aren't particulary memorable, but, they did leave a lasting impression in Spain.

According to the Dictionary of Spanish language the word "Rebeca" has, since the 1940s, stood for a kind of cardigan, like that worn by Joan's character in the film.

The cardigan, seen below, was worn as part of a twinset along with a grey skirt.

Lots has been going on with the Classic Star Style pages lately, namely the icon that is Lauren Bacall has been added!

New hairstyle guides and info are up for Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn with guides to their earlier hair looks.

The Start of the Classic Style Blog!

Well, it's been a long time coming and it's still very much a work in progress - design will be fixed and tweaked soon! - but the Classic Stars style blog is finally up!
